Autodesk Inventor 2025

Chapter 4 – Creating Solid Models

Session 1 – Introduction

The major topics covered in this chapter are:

  • Introduction to 3D Models.
  • Work Planes, axes, and geometric point creation.
  • Extrude Feature.
  • Brief note on Drawings.
  • Sketching plane selection.
  • Practical and Practice

We welcome you to the 3D world of Autodesk Inventor. Like any other 3D CAD modeling software, Autodesk Inventor has full set of tools to create 3D models on the basis of specified dimensions. Till this point, we have learned about the 2D sketching tools. Now, we will be using those 2D sketches to create 3D models which can later be used for CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) applications. The tools to create 3D models are available in the 3D Model tab of the Ribbon; refer to following figure. We will discuss these tools one by one in this chapter.

Before we starting using the modeling tools, we need to understand the construction geometries like plane, axis, points, and coordinate system. Various construction geometries and their respective tools are discussed next.
